How to send WhatsApp campaigns without getting your number restricted

The Jwab team · · 3 min read

WhatsApp campaigns get read far more than email, which is exactly why WhatsApp protects its users from spam. Every business number has a quality rating based on how people react to its messages. Too many blocks and reports, and Meta can lower your messaging limits or restrict the number. Here is how to run campaigns that sell without putting your number at risk.

1. Only message people who opted in

WhatsApp’s Business Messaging Policy requires opt-in: the customer agreed to receive messages from your business on WhatsApp. Good ways to collect it:

  • A checkbox at checkout or sign-up that names your business and WhatsApp.
  • A customer who messages you first and asks to hear about offers.
  • A Click-to-WhatsApp ad, where the customer starts the chat.

A bought list or a list scraped from groups is the fastest way to get blocked, and blocks are what lower your quality rating.

2. Make leaving easy, and honour it

Tell people how to stop, for example “Reply STOP to unsubscribe”, and remove them right away. Someone who can unsubscribe in one word doesn’t need to press “block”. In Jwab, a reply of STOP opts the contact out of campaigns automatically.

3. Use the right template category

Campaign messages are sent with templates that Meta reviews. Choose the category honestly:

  • Marketing: offers, new products, events.
  • Utility: order, shipping and appointment updates the customer is expecting.

Putting promotions inside a “utility” template gets it rejected or recategorised, and wastes time.

4. Segment instead of blasting

One message to everyone feels like spam to most of them. Smaller, relevant segments get more reads and fewer blocks:

  • Customers who bought in the last 90 days.
  • Customers tagged by interest or branch.
  • Customers who haven’t messaged in a while, for a gentle re-engagement offer.

5. Send at the right pace and the right time

  • Start small. Send to your most engaged segment first and watch the results before the rest.
  • Send in batches, not tens of thousands at once.
  • Respect the clock. A 6 am promotion is a block waiting to happen. Daytime and early evening in the customer’s time zone work best.

Jwab sends campaigns in batches, only within safe hours, and checks your number’s health before sending.

6. Write messages people want

  • Lead with the value: the offer, the date, the benefit.
  • Keep it short, with one clear button or call to action.
  • Personalise with the customer’s name, and only where it’s natural.
  • Don’t send the same promotion twice in a week.

7. Watch the numbers after every campaign

Track delivered, read and replies per campaign. Low read rates and quiet segments are a warning: send to them less often, or stop. And answer the replies quickly. A campaign that starts conversations is the best signal you can send.

The checklist

  • ✓ Every recipient opted in
  • ✓ There’s a clear way to unsubscribe, honoured automatically
  • ✓ Correct template category
  • ✓ A relevant segment, not the whole list
  • ✓ Sent in batches, at a sensible hour
  • ✓ Results reviewed, and replies answered fast

Jwab includes WhatsApp campaigns in every plan: templates synced with Meta, targeting by tags and fields, batches and scheduling, automatic opt-out and a report for every recipient. Ask for a 7-day free trial in our chat.
